So before I start writing on SQL SERVER, here’s the outline of my plan.
- Less DML (Data Manipulation Language) commands, More on DDL(Data Definition Language) side.
- Focus on functions, stored procedures, triggers, database structures, database design etc.
- I plan to write on SSIS, SSRS and SSAS.
- Little bit on database maintenance, migration, security etc.
- Maybe little bit on MDX for cubes.
I will be using SQL Server 2008 R2. So you’ll need to download it and a database to play with. They are freely available online. Here’s the link to the database and SQL SERVER. As of today both are working fine.

After you download, click on the setup file and follow the instructions below. You will reach a point in the video where he talks about features part. Make sure along with Database Engine, you install Analysis Services and Reporting Services. He does not do it!
